Miriam Wheeler
Miriam works as a cardiologist at Auckland Hospital and leads the Rheumatic Heart Disease service. She completed a fellowship in echocardiography and cardiac obstetrics at St Paul’s Hospital in Canada. In 2011, she spent six months at Emergency’s Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery in Sudan managing complex rheumatic heart disease and two years working in Darwin, Australia. She continues to support cardiac care in the Pacific Islands. Miriam was a co-author for the 'Women & Girls with Rheumatic Heart Disease' chapter of the 2020 Australian Guidelines for rheumatic fever and heart disease and a co-author of the recently published New Zealand guidelines.
